Osteoarthritis (OA) & Type 2 Diabetes (T2DM) program.

With greater than 10% of the population over the age of 65 years having been diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes, and 43.7% of those having some form of osteoarthritis, CCA is interested in finding out if our 24 week exercise as medicine program can successfully send a patient in to remission prior to surgery?

The presence of diabetes negatively impacts joint surgery outcomes by decreasing functional outcomes, increasing rate of infection and increasing rates of revision surgery.

This real world observational study aims to;

  • Reduce medical risks prior to and during surgery

  • Increase mental and physical health outcomes following surgery

  • Reduce post-operative recovery time

  • Achieve remission in pre-diabetic and Type 2 diabetic participants

ELIGIBILTY CRITERIA
Participants must:

  • Have a diagnosis of concurrent Type 2 Diabetes and Osteoarthritis

  • Considering or exploring their hip and knee joint surgery options
